I switched from a gel foam topper to the Sleep On Latex Pure Green 14 months ago. My 2am wake-ups dropped from 4–5 times a week to once every 2–3 weeks. That’s the summary. Here’s the full review.
Bottom Line
The Sleep On Latex Pure Green is the best value cooling topper for hot sleepers who can’t afford (or don’t want) the $350+ Saatva Graphite or Eight Sleep options. It’s natural latex — genuinely breathable — and at $180–230 for a queen it’s priced fairly for what it does. I’ve recommended it to multiple people and haven’t had anyone report regret.

I use the 2″ Medium (28 ILD) on a queen memory foam mattress. This combo is my personal recommendation for most hot sleepers.
The Cooling Test
I measured sleep surface temperature with an infrared thermometer at 30-minute intervals on three separate nights — one on bare foam mattress, one on gel foam topper, one on the Sleep On Latex topper.
- Bare foam mattress, 3am: 89°F sleep surface (room at 72°F)
- Gel foam topper, 3am: 85°F sleep surface
- Sleep On Latex, 3am: 79°F sleep surface
10°F difference between bare foam and natural latex at the critical 3am window. That’s significant — and it matches what I felt subjectively.
Comfort Assessment
Latex feels different from foam. It’s more responsive — it bounces back immediately when you change positions rather than the slow-release of memory foam. If you love the sinking “hug” feeling of memory foam, latex will feel foreign at first. After 1–2 weeks, most people prefer it.
The 2″ Medium is the sweet spot for most sleeping positions. Side sleepers who need serious shoulder pressure relief might want 3″ Soft. Stomach sleepers should stick to 1″ Firm to avoid spinal misalignment.
14-Month Durability Check
No significant compression, no uneven wear patterns, no smell (latex has a mild initial rubber smell that disappears in 2–3 days). The topper looks and performs essentially the same as when new. Natural latex is legitimately durable — this thing should last 8–10 years with normal use.
What I’d Change
- It’s heavy. A queen 2″ latex topper weighs ~25 lbs. Not easy to flip or move for washing. Solution: pair it with a washable topper cover.
- No cover included. Buy a Tencel or bamboo topper cover separately — adds $30–50 but makes a difference in feel and protects the latex.
- Not ideal if you hate bouncy surfaces. The responsiveness is a feature for most people, but deep memory foam fans may need an adjustment period.
Who Should Buy It
Buy it if: You’re sleeping on foam, overheating, and want the most effective per-dollar cooling upgrade. You care about natural materials. You want something that lasts.
Skip it if: You need deep pressure-relief contouring of memory foam. You have a very firm mattress and want to add softness (latex on firm base feels very firm — go 3″ Soft in that case). Budget is under $100 (Lucid Gel is the budget pick).
